Default Short shocks = Broken Bolts

I have lowered my bike and I have be wondering if it is going to happen to me...

Is there only certain years of Dynas that have had issues with broken bolts with lowered shocks?

Is it with only 10.5" shocks?

Is it only with Heavy Duty shocks?

Thanks for all replies...

I never had that problem with my burly slammers and my buddy sheared his bolt on stock shocks.

Burly Slammers here and ride 2up a lot. Shock bolts are something I have always kept a close eye on, and no issues here. I could see where if one worked loose some it might shear. And why just happen with lowered shocks? Stocks shocks will bottom out.....

A friend of mine has an 2006 FXD and he snapped the upper shock bolt when he had stock shocks mounted. The dealer told him that there was a service bulletin for the the upper shock bolts on the 2006 dynes. The dealer had to order a kit from HD that had some kind of drill template the allowed them to drill out the upper mounts and add the grade 8 studs of the newer models. The dealer performed the service for free and this was on a used bike. He hasnt had any issues since......

I suffered several broken upper shock bolts in the first few months I had my 06 FXDL. Ever since I adopted a torque wrench and blue loctite, the problem is completely gone.

Thanks for all replies. I did think it was only certain years but was not sure which. I guess it looks like '06 may the year.

I run 11" 412's and have had them for atleast three years now. I have never broken a shock bolt but I do torque them to spec everytime. Mines an '06.
