Does anyone know the torque specs for the steering head on a 2006 Dyna Wide Glide? It has developed a bad wobble and I'm thinking perhaps they are loose.Info greatly appreciated! I can call the Harley shop but I'm trying to fix it today.
Check your service manual for Fall Away check, the only torque spec will be for the top nut, you can also do a search on this forum for the Fall away procedure, Has anything been changed on the bike that might contribute to the wobble, check your tires and pressure, my tre pressure dropped when the weather got cooler
Hello Hickster
I am not a Harley expert but on all the bikes i have worked on it is not a torque setting. Sure the head set will be tappered bearing sets in top and bottom of head stock. Get the front end off the ground and turn the forks from lock to lock but load them from front to back ie push and pull them a little to feel the play. The trick is to tighten the tapper to the point where where is no slack but not to nip so as to cause them to bind.

Like others have said..it's not the bolt that is out of whack, it is the bearing adjustment. If you look under the bolt you will see a slotted washer...that's the bearing adjuster. To get it adjusted properly you have to have it in the air and do the "fall away" procedure.
Steering stem bearings are just getting loose, if you loosen the stem and tighten the star looking nut under there it will fix the problem. Im pretty sure it is around 80ftlbs it will stop its self though if you go to tight. Its light weight nut so it can slip easy. You can do the fall away but I always wonder how questionable it is with different weight being on rotor and brake side.
