Things weren't always the way they are now in this country. The labor force got the rights they have now, over the blood sweat and tears of the union workers that were willing to stand up for themselves.

Some of you have absolutely no comprehension of what the top tier of wealth in this country thinks of you. Your mind can't even wrap itself around the concept that their minds don't work like ours do. You may make 200 grand a year, but most of those guys at the top could walk past you bleeding to death in a mudhole and never take a second look. You're just inferior ignorant working trash to them, and they consider you expendable. An asset to be controlled and managed to their benefit.

I am not anti union, but see the problems with some of the lack of effort that is protected by them. I can remember that employees at the GM plant in Lordstown, Oh talking about their naps on 3rd shift and how each of them would cover for another. Nothing the supervisor could do, now that person made a good wage, and the company got nothing in return.

I used to work at UPS and they were union as well. Every meeting they talked about how much coin the company made off our backs, yet when the meeting was over they drove away in Caddies. Ever ask them how much coin they make ???? And what do they do ?

Fedex is part union and part non union. Some of General Electric is union and non union...in both cases the Bennies are these same and the non union wages are higher..go figure

well, not all unions are like that . without unions. non union workers would not even have bennies. like everything, there is good and bad. but as i read many ppl on here slam unions, and say they are all lazy and outdates, etc. is pure bullsh>t. like some ***>hole cages still say all bikers are trash !!! then they try to run over us and kill us. yea, we all in gangs and go around killing people, right ? maybe it is the younger ppl here that have been brainwashed by rotten companies that think 6.00 a hour is fine with no bennies. some need not judge one, till they have walked a mile in their shoes. cause one harley plant has a dispute, ppl here start this f'ing rant that unions are rotten. that is why i seered .

ak stell had a zero tolerance for drinking, one beer the night before, and if you got tested, you were fired, yes,the truth. as many lazy bosses got wasted every night. i suppose that is a-ok too,eh ? and the long list goes on and on. ppl have no idea. clueless for sure .

so true voyager. There's good and bad in everything, union and non union alike. Most don't know that union wages are what non union wages are compared with and its what helps keep non union wages what they are. There's also the safety issues as well. Big corps will not spend monies if they don't feel they have to, so union safety guidelines help make work environments be a safer place to work. If not for unions there would not be 40 hr work weeks, holidays and much more. And yes, imho, most of the younger set have been brainwashed into thinking unions are evil. Part of this is based on what they see in some of those union factories where slugs are made safe from having to perform up to par. Compare that with a non union shop where sucking a$$ is what keeps some on the payroll. Same principle, just perceived differently. But I have to say, unions are generalized and catagorized, when in fact, each has its own individualized points, both good and bad. Trade unions are a far cry different from factory unions, but locals within each individual type of union may be different as well. Anyway you look at it, unions are bastions for the middleclass trying to aide in its desire to provide for their own in the battle for equity in the work place when facing the upperclass management/owners, imho.

the non-union companies pay a little more than the companies that have a union work force because they want to keep the unions out and when the unions ever get busted you and i will have a much harder life without the unions just because ford,gm,toy, moco they will not pay a fair wage and if the avg. working man or women doesn't get a fair wage whos going to buy their products you know their not going to lower their prices. i know guys that have worked for non-union companies that have told me that if you were tobe injured in anyway you might as well get your personals and leave because your laid off or fired. i have buddies that work in non-union coal mines and they get treated like dogs my son is one of them yes they may pull down 70+ a year six days a week 12 hours a day go non-union slave labor. the company i work for uses contractors/non-union to do small minimal task that the reg. union workers could do but the company wants us to stick to the major task and when our job is completed always on time correct and safe we have to go back and redo the wannbes job that they have screwed up now who is cheating who the company has paid twice for a small job that should have been done right the first time. and by the way yes the union does give some protection from losing your job. i am not against anyone who works a non-union job i myself may have to one day but you should thank the unions for your pay scale and far as safety in the work place who do you think lobby for that the unions or the companies. companies didn't its cheaper to replace you or me than buy a d11 bulldozer.

I agree DYNADave1450, if it were not for the unions the pay scale would be lower.

Obviously there are good non union employers out there...all i have to go on are my own personal experiences with non union shops...you know, the places where the boss's son does nothing and gets paid astronomical wages compared to the people he works next to and the boss's golf buddy gets the cake jobs and promotions regardless of his work ethic. The kind of place where if the company only makes 999% profit as opposed to 1000%, they lay off half the crew and work everyone else forced o.t. for 7 days a week...while the boss goes on vacation to Hawaii.Unionizing these places is nearly impossible as they will close there doors and move away before they let the workers organize.Once again. if you work in a good non union shop, consider yourself lucky.

When you lose your job because your employer can no longer afford your wages or benefits like non-contributory health insurance and outsources to overseas, be sure to thank your union.

You might not like your management's wages, but until and unless you're a majority stockholder or sit on the Board of Directors (which often amounts to much the same thing), your opinion doesn't count for much. We're talking about self-preservation and self-interest here....short term vs. long term. Insist on that wage increase for the next "X" years...or lose you job in "X" years...it comes down to that. Choose, but don't complain when it doesn't work out in a way you don't like. I oversimplify, but not by much.
