Pulled the trigger on a new carb. Anyone have jet suggestions for an 88 stage one cleaner and a thunder header? Also have the old cv with about 12k on it for sale and a new cv performance premium tuners kit for sale.
quoted from another members post.... I will be dealing with jetting a Mikuni soon on a S&S 97 build with 510 gear drives and a T header so I will know more later.
I've gone through hell with my Mik42 and finally have the carb and engine working together without flat spots with great throttle response. You will have to learn your carb through trial and error (very few tech's out there know them it's all about EFI) Below is my setup for my 95 up FLHR with S&S gear cams:
Pilot jet = 27.5
Main Jet = 172.5
Needle = Stock with clip in middle pos
Acc Pump = is set to pump on initial throttle twist
Air screw = 1 ž turns out
My plugs run just a tough rich
Hope this helps you with a workable setup - good luck
call mikuni technical support. they are excellent and are very happy to help. If I ever get another carbed bike I will get a Mikuni 42 for it straight away. The number is on the back of the orange book that came with the carb.
20 pilot, 50 accelerator pump squirter with the pump cam rod set touching the cam. 165 main jet. Needle position and idle mixture need to be set after riding it.
Thanks for the input. Guess im going to have to do a little reading on the way thry work. Seems a little more complicated than the CV. That or I just got used to the cv carb.

The additional complexity and tuning ability of the Mikuni is what makes it great. Just takes some tinkering and time.
