About to by my 1st Harley. Looking at the Super Glide Custom 2012.Pro's or Con's??????
I were buying a Dyna now that's what it'd be. And if it wasn't that I'd move to a base Road King. Yes it's more money but it already has the removable windshield, luggage and comfortable seat, driving lights, crash bars, etc.
I really like my 11 FXDC. Price was a big factor when I was buying. But now that i've owned one for 2 summers, I'd buy another evn if they were priced higher than other Dynas
i had 2 sporty's before getting my super glide. the FXDC is definitely not a sporty on steroids. I loved 883's but I would have a hard time going back.
No relationship to the Sportster other than the brand name. VASTimprovement over the Sportster
for touring, much more nimble than the larger bikes, could use more power and has an annoying wobble
that can be cured with some add-on bits (search on True-Track and Spruthe).
I've spent up to two weeks at a time on mine riding through the Southwest and it's been a very good bike.
I own one... I like it.. It is already well down the "modding road" its a great "base" platform to start with. HDs' to me are the blank canvass.. what the individual does to it to personalize it "paints the picture"
You have to be into shiny, chromey... if you want the blacked out /drab colored bikes like alot of the guys here like, (not for me) you'd be better starting with a wideglide or street/fatbob..
the FXDC is the only shiny HD in the Dyna line up left.. (unless you get one of the 2013streetbob customizer bikes) if they still made a Lowrider I would never have gotten the Superglide but it was the only one left that started out "base" with what I wanted..
Liveable:
Unfortunately it is still a 96 and not a 103.. (dont know if you can get the FXDC in a 103 even for '13?) but thats ok at least for me.. I plan on paying Fuel Moto a visit in Spring to turn it into a Hellraiser 107 Shiny, Loud and Fast.. thats my kinda bike..
Cons:
Depending on your height the mid peg location sucks.. the stock headlight sucks too.. I dont like dash mounted speedos so that sucks for me.. but I am getting used to it.. stock seat is mediocre at best.. stock tune on all harleys suck.. too hot/lean..
Pros:
You can make it "yours" (just like everone else does.. heh) with an almost unlimited series of Mods.. and parts available.. stay on this website.. the things some of these dudes on here know.. and they do to their bikes.. is nothing short of motorcycling utopianism..
