I'm very biased and they are nothing like a sporster. I would definitely buy another. Just have to make it yours and I'm just getting started.

Default 09 super glide

I bought a 09 this past summer. my first harley, I really like my glide made a few mods to "Betty" so far. trany shifts like butter...very smooth. I think the FXDC doesnt get the publicity it deserves. it was harley's first factory custom.

I am very happy with mine. Price was a big plus for me, and I didn't want a Sportster. Handles great, good power for solo or two up. I went right to forwards because the mids were to cramped feeling to me. Bought a different seat and a detachable back rest for two up riding and had the bars changed. Right now the only down side is this forum, reading it is starting to cost me too much money seeing all the cool stuff everyone does that I would like to do.

I love my Custom. I like the mid controls, too. Allows me to stand on the pegs when on really bad roads, going over RR tracks, or giving my butt a rest. Can't do those things with forwards.
To me, it has enough power to ride the highways all day. Granted it's not like the ZZR1200/160HP bike I had, but it is much more comfortable and who needs another 100 HP to ride around? The seat does suck, at least for me, and the Sundowner fixed that with minimal expense.

You can leave the bike totally stock, and enjoy it or farkle the heck out of it, and enjoy it. The decision is yours to spend dollars as you wish.

I do have a Sportster of sorts, the XR1200. It is a blast to ride, but doesn't compare to the ride of the Custom for comfort and long distance riding, and is no longer made, so the best Sportster made in years is no longer available, anyway... tomp

FWIW, if you install forwards, you do NOT need to remove the stock mid-pegs. I have both on
my bike and when I want to change position or stand up and resettle the family jewels, I flip
the mids out from their normally folded position..

Let's see if I can remember all the stuff I've done to mine, all of it functional, nothing just for dress

4 1/2" curved riser
Cigarette lighter as a power take-off
battery charging pig tail
power take-off for Gerbing heated gloves
Custom mounted Batwing with HD quick release clamps
7" headlight
relocated bullet style front turn signals onto forks below batwing
Forward controls
crash bar
True-Track
fork brace
Memphis Shades lower deflectors
auxiliary lights mounted on crash bar
Digital dipstick temp gauge
10 row Jagg oil cooler (meant for bagger)
aux light switch using bagger radio switch housing on left grip
padded grips
still experimenting with foot boards
Mustang Vintage Solo seat with backrest
removable sissy bar
larger frame for rear rack (adapted from bagger lid rack)
Edge brackets for quick release leather saddlebags
relocated rear lights
kick stand extension
EBJ (??) metallic brake pads
Currently running Michelin Commander II tires (so far, so good..)
An assortment of different sized luggage (wasted some bucks playing around.. )

No engine or exhaust mods of any kind.

That's about it..

I've been riding 40+yr. Have owned many Rice Burners, 1 BSA, 2 Ducati's, & 3 Sportsters. My 2012 FXDC is the best road bike I have owned so far. Bought it mid season and have 5500+mi on it so far. It's not as fast as a 1200 Sportster, and not as Nimble, but it makes up for that in a more friendly ride.

All bikes are winterized except for the SG, hoping for "One More Good Run" before I winterize it.

Pros:

-Awesome bike with enough chrome but not too much.

-Can ride the long hauls with no problem at all. Great for two up riding provided you get a comfy seat for the lady.

-Like any HD, add a PCV, new af, and slip ons and your power issues are over.

-You can personalize/customize/accessorize the bike in any direction you like, I've done mine a few ways...

Cons: I cant think of any.

Earlier this year I was in market for a new harley, I was on fence between brand new and pre-owned. The '12 Super Glide was on my list, but in the end I settled on an '04 Wide Glide for about half the price which worked well for me.

Just my .02...rent one, ride a friends, etc. but don't go and lay your money down just to regret it. Thats a lot of money to regret.
