Hey guys Christmas is coming and I have a lot of question.
Will I need to get my bike tuned after installing an aftermarket air cleaner (I'm currently running SE 50\50 slip-on.
Second question is performance wise is there really a difference between the 500$air cleaner(PM,RSD ETC), the 220$( S&S, K&N, Arlen Ness) and the 159$(HD, DK etc) if so how many HP is there in difference and is it that much of a difference
In my limited knowledge, yes, you do need to get some kind of tuner, doesnt have to be a fancy one, just something to compensate for the increased air flow. I dont know about the difference between the expensive and not so expensive air cleaners. Mostly, I would think its up to personal preference. But there may be some out there that do show a dramatic difference in performance.
I have a cheap tuner and a not so expensive air cleaner. My bike runs perfect and it will always be slow compared to previous bikes, so I not really concerned about HP.
With an air cleaner and slip-ons alone, you are not going to get a noticeable HP gain, so I wouldnt sweat it, go with what you think looks good on the bike.
A a/c and pipes do not need a tuner and the ECM should adjust it. But if you want to get the most out of the a/c, then a tuner is best. XIEDs at a minimum will richen it up a bit.
All the a/c are pretty much the same element, K&N is a good one. The more expensive are more for the looks.
you are going to get varied replies on this but....IMO yes you should tune the bike after replacing the stock filter with a free flowing filter. Also I believe you should tune for any modifications that will increase flow for intake or exhaust.
Your '06 Delphi, EFI and engine management system is not closed loop and does not compensate for changes. The later Delphi closed loop does not utilize wide band )2 sensors and has limited ability to compensate.

You will definitely get a variety of responses. I can tell you what I personally experienced. First I put on the V&H BSS, not that big of a difference, besides in exhaust noise. Then I put on the a/c, and thats when all the popping started, really bad decel popping. I bought a cheaper tuner, putting that on at the recommended setting completely got rid of the popping.
There are two ways, 1)install a fuel optimizer (DFO) this will control fuel only, 2) install something equivalent to PCIII, this will allow adjusts for fuel for any and all engine ruirements and it is tunable to the engines needs. It depends on your budget, wallet.
