I'm going to order a ape kit from Hill Country Customs in the next few weeks. I was set on 12" bars on 2" risers, but a few months down the road I don't want to kick myself for not getting 14's.
I'll be putting these on a 2002 WG. I had a 2000 Sportster that I put a wide glide tree kit on and the mini apes that came factory on the 2000 WG.
I'm thinking the factory 2K WG bars were 10"?
I really don't want my hands to be much above shoulder level. Would the 12" bars with 2" risers get me where I want?
Kevin,
Check this thread. The guy is 5'7" and the 14"s are good for him. Anything you can read to help.

No way to tell if Your arms will be shoulder level as every ones torso is not the same size.
I am 5'7 and love my set up:
I would suggest getting the 14's. I was in a similar situation as you before I ordered my 14's. I was coming from street bob bars as well as 10 inch z bars and finally drag bars with 4" risers. I've done my fair share of bar swaps.( 5 or 6 set ups maybe, I cant remember really.)
I was considering 14's or 16's. I went with the 14's. I now run the 14's with 3.5 inch risers and it is super comfy. I am 5,7 and enjoy the way I sit up with the reach. It makes my back feel less cramped as well. That's my 2 cents. Good luck.
Yeah I'm thinking more towards 14 than 12 now. I'd go with 1.5 or 2" risers.
Deciding on what bars to get is a pain too. A lot of the ones I've seen in the JP catalog have 10 to 11" pull back. LA Choppers has a set of 14 tall 10.5 center width at the risers, and only 8" pull back. Their not too cheap at $179.00.
Still might go with the full kit from Hill Country, their bars have a 8.5" pull back. Their complete kit with new controls wired thru the bars and all cables is $599, add another $90 and they come with the under tank plugs installed.....just plug and play.

Check these bars out. Center is 10" and they look really good with a mid glide. They have 11" pullback. Come in chrome and black. I love mine.
