Cool Wiring help! Wondering which wires go where..

Just scored a new to me 07 Dyna Superglide already equipped with the teardrop mirror/signal light combo.Replacing mirrors.
New, rounder bigger mirrors come with a black wire and a red wire.
The old mirrors have 2 different colors plus a bare wire.
the HD wires are purple, black and blue.
The bike has some kind of system where the lights in the mirrors flashed/blinked when bike is moved.
Just wondering which wires to attach together.

Also, the left gas tank cap is a skull with blue led's. Wonder what they are, perhaps a fuel gage of sorts...

Purple = directional indicator
Blue = Position lamp
Black = Ground

The bike has a TSSM (turn signal and security module). When armed, it makes the indicators blink when the bike is moved.

If you let me know what new mirrors you have now (brand/type), I could try to find some more info on how to connect them.

Default Wiring

Thank you for your offer of assistance.
Here is the Ebay site where new mirrors purchased.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330843518679...84.m1497.l2648
Oval mirrors from Demon Cycle.
As you can see, the new mirrors have only 2 wires.
According to Demon Cycle, the mirrors are self grounding units.

The old mirrors had 3 wires.
The bare wire was connected to the black HD wire.
The other two wires went to the purple and blue HD wires
Again, thank you.
Tres

I assume the turn signals and driving lights work properly?

Edit:

What I understand from this website the leds either work as indicators or running lights.

That explains why these mirrors only have two wires:
red for 12V power (either from blue running light wire or purple indicator wire);
black for ground.

Yes. Prior to my cutting the wires, all was OK.
At initial glance the new mirror had a red/black wire which I mistook to be a red and a black wire.

Soo.. a choice; wire it for either running or signal lights. Hooked up purple to red and black to black.. signal function works.
"It's alive!"
Ain't it crazy how a biker on one side of the world can help out a fellow biker with electric problemos.. It's like back in the 70's when stranded HD riders would often hear "Need some help?" And other riders would pull over and brainstorm..
Again, thank you.
Your new friend in Central Tx.
Tres

To connect the leds to the OEM wiring harness I'd recommend to buy these parts:

2 x Amp Socket Wiring Housing 3-Position p/n 73153-96BK

6 x Receptacle Contact p/n 73191-96

Two options on how to connect the leds:

Running lights:
black from mirror to black at bike (pin 1 at both connectors)
red from mirror to blue (pin 2 at both connectors)
isolate violet (l/h) and brown (r/h) on bike

Directional indicators:
black from mirror to black on bike
red from mirror to violet (pin 2 at l/h connector) and brown (pin 2 at r/h connector) on bike
isolate blue on bike

If you don't connect the leds to the front directional lights, my guess is the rear directional's flash rate will be higher due to a lack of resistance. A load equalizer could help to solve this problem. IMO the safety module will not be effected.

More info on the use of these connectors to be found in this post by mud:

What a great forum. Anything more and it would be delivered and installed. Doesn't get any better...
