so i want a seat rest for the wife so she can ride comfortably and not worry about falling off the *** end. i dont want to spend the money from harley so i'm designing my own. i pulled the original off and made a cardboard template to get the basic measurements and angles. then i measured the angle that is most comfortable for my wife to recline at (using a board as a back rest). the stock angle is 23* and the whole bracket is designed around the 23*. her ideal angle is 17*. so, using the basic design, i changed the angle and all the radius's accordingly. i only have the draft version done so far. once i get the metal prototype done i'll post those pics as well.
here's the draft version...
here's the template of the original over the draft version, note the change in angle....
Congrats on the new Wide Glide, you'll be very happy with it. I have the Vance and Hines chrome big shots on mine and they sound great. I do wish in retrospect though that I went with the black ones instead but oh well.
thanks guys. no further progress on the back rest so far. fence blew over, work got busier and school got hectic. so i've been riding when i can. mainly to and from work. anyways, i'm going to keep up with the fab work. anyone have any suggestions on saddle bags? i'm torn between leather and hard bags. either way i'm going to run the easy bracket system. i want a set of large bags that i can easily throw a change of clothes in to include boots. the viking bags are leather/plastic/fiberglass and seem like a good match and the price is unbelievable. almost too good which is why i'm holding off on buying them. anyone have any experience with them?
finally getting around to building the sissybar....
redesigned and make metal cut outs of the brackets. these are 1/8". harley uses 12ga stock (i think) so these are a little thicker.
here's the pad i'll be using...
and the torch im gonna try to use and bend the bar when i get it....
