I would reckon the painter is an authorized HD colormatch shop. Which simply means he has access to the current hd paint codes and has been approved to fix paint f-ups. Which happens more than you want to know enroute to the dealer via shipping. Our local inspects every bike and will send a tin out if scratched/hipped/sagged/etc... before it goes on the floor. The turn around if sent back is longer than they want to possibly hold the bike.

1. The guy at the dealer could of told you that simply because it wasn't done yet and figured that reply would buy them a day or 2.

2. The sag was in the base coat not the clear so the level of work required is greater than they expected - thus longer turn around.

The first 2 are true and the 3rd probably is true.
Authorized HD paint repair.
Dealer seems to say anything to "buy time"
The sag is probably in the base coat.

Regardless, I've owned the bike for three weeks and I had possession for one week. In that week, I had to take the bike back for the intake installation because they ordered or received the wrong one, then again because the alarm system was malfunctioning.

It's frustrating as hell to wait six weeks for the bike, but I knew that going in. It's much more frustrating to take delivery only to let it sit in their shop while they fumble around.

Dealer in Savannah? If so, I have been there a few times and they always seemed to be ok folks. Howevver, SLV is a little limited in his options, as there arn't any other dealers that are real close to go to as an alternative. In Atl, there are a bunch. Good luck on this.

Yeah, I'm trying to not write these guys off. The next closest dealer is in Brunswick but it's a sister shop of the same dealer in Savannah. I really want this issue resolved quickly so I can put it behind me.

I was wondering if they used HD paint.

I bought a new Sportster in 2000 and bought an aftermarket tank for it a week later. I when to the local HD shop and they had a quart in stock. It was bronze pearl, and I think it cost $32 to $38. Had a local painter paint it, and it was a perfect match.

Have them just replace it, you can still ride and keep your old one on till it arrives

Finally.

HD is pulling a fender from the line (if they have my color), or painting a new one today. It is supposed to ship out this weekend.

In the mean time, the shop is re-installing my fender until I can bring the bike in again for the replacement.

And yes, the painter, a place called 'The Shop" in Richmond Hill Georgia is using HD paint but is not getting a color match. The guys is very good and I don't fault him. He refused to just let it go without a perfect match. He is happy that the factory is replacing it.
