Actually that's not accurate when it comes to lowering a bike by using shorter shocks. The further you go from the pivot point of the swing arm, the larger the number will be. Installing 1" shorter shocks will lower the bike 1.5" to 1.75" between the top of the wheel and the fender.

The ride will be hard for you and your passenger.
Going two up, I would raise it a bit.
I was bottoming out with the stock shocks solo!
My Works streettrackers changed my rear ride and raised the bike 3/4".
However my Metz radial lowered it a bit so it sits near normal but the ride is nothing near stock.

Unhappy Lowering Bike

I lowered my 08 Fat Boy with the HD lowering kit; front and rear.
Weight topped off around 920 lbs on road trips around Vietnam.

Took plenty of hard hits bottoming out front and rear. No problem on the rear, but could have shared the reason for breaking a pinch bolt on the steering neck.

One issue I was fortunate to find in time: Footboards will grind in curves (often intentionally), but after last long haul I found I was grinding the bottom of the primary!

Thanks Dlzannini, I wanted to be sure I wasn't going about it wrong. Does that mean I could keep my shocks and go the lowering kit for a much less expensive option? Is there one choice that's better to avoid the bottoming out problems mentioned?

if you use the relocation brackets it will lower the back, but the shocks are no longer at the ideal angle and will not be 100% If you want to do it correctly buy the shocks. Do it once and do it right. just my 2cents.

My fxdwg is lowered . The only thing that drags is the stupid skid plate, bar, that piece of gunk that guards the oil pan. By the way I wonder who thought that disaster through. Speed bumps are a pain. Watch OUT FOR RIGHT HAND TURNS.

xracer and just waiting. I think if I do it, I will just go with the Prog. 412s. It will lower it a little, but won't mess with the angle like xracer mentioned. I'm still not sure though as I'm hoping to have the OL on the back fairly often.
