i pulled my stock and went with a LR dash so i could run a tach... i have tossed around the idea of ditching it and running a trailtech digital, and glassing in something for the tank... problem is i have one of the seamed tanks and i do not want to go though the bs of re welding it and smooth out the seam... i would prob just buy a new tank... if you look at your tank and you have no seam you can also chop the stock dash down...
here is the LR dash with tach in various stages on my bike
What bike are you looking at putting the new console on ...? Your Fat Bob ...?
If you're thinking of doing a Street Bob console you will need to swap your stock 5" speedo for a 4" speedo ...
Also, as you noted in your original post ... you would need to either relocate the ignition switch or cut a hole in the dash to mount your ignition ...
I just installed the Wide Glide dash ... if you do it, you should look at the '10 or '11 dash ... the new dash relocated the odometer reset switch from the console to the horn button ...
... if you were to go that route, you'd need a 4" speedo ...
Bit of a PITA..It can be done..You may be able to shave the console a bit can't remember how close/deep the speedo is to the tank.Might get a 1/4" that way.Moving switch is a start.Smaller speedo ect...Like said earlier,I just went with powder coating, removing the bib and through some pin stripe where the bib was.But hey, it is a Fat Bob after all..Kinda hard to hide a 5 gal tank.
Not certain ... but, I do not believe the difference in the tanks is enough to prevent one from using either console on either tank ...
I saw where someone used the larger 5" speedo console on a Street Bob (4" speedo) tank ... had to bend the tabs on the mounting bracket ... other than that it was pretty much straight bolt on ...
