I plan on getting a new front tire soon and when i do i plan on having my stock 06 super glide wheel powder coated gloss black. So they will have to replace my wheel bearings i think.
Should i have them replace with the stock bearings or should i buy some different / better bearings. Does it matter at all?
Use the Harley bearings. 06 and 07 had the wide 1" bearings. They're very high quality, I've seen them go 100k. 08 and newer are the narrow, made in Mexico 25mm bearings. I've seen those last as little as 5k.
yea, they're junk unfortunately. Seem a little better on dynas and softails than baggers but still fail prematurely. I'm putting a Buell xb wheel on the front this winter which is a 25mm bearing. We will see how they last compared to the Harley ones.

Nobody said they make their own bearings. I'm saying the old 1" bearings harley used are far better than the new 25mm bearings. On a bike with 1" bearings I would replace them with the Harley bearings. To me its not worth the time and effort to hunt down bearings not meant for the application with no idea what you're really getting or how long they will last. Unless you get the numbers off the Harley bearings and can get them direct from the supplier.
I knew there was an issue with hd bearings I just wasn't sure what year it was. I will use the hd ones if mine fell in the good years. they have lasted fine for 75,000 miles. I just wanted to get a second opinion. I am not worried about saving the 10 dollars or so to track down different bearing i just wanted to make sure the "hd' replacement ones are as good as the original ones i had.
