Default Exhaust Flange Nuts - Huh?

Well, this is strange and I can't figure it out. Last weekend I took the exhaust system completely off so I could put on a chrome cam cover and transmission side cover. Today I finally get around to putting the pipes back on. Here's the strange part.. The flange nuts. It appears two of the flange nuts go on quite easily, the other two don't. I get a thread or two on and they tighten up quick. I look closely at the nuts and it looks like two of them are captive nuts. These two nuts are dippled on two of the shoulder sides. I looked in the manual and it says nothing about different nuts. What is up with this? Anybody else experience this issue? I'm figuring each of the exhaust flanges need one regular nut and one captive nut. If this is true, then which flange stud does the nut go on?

Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

This isn't a cross threading issue - rather this is an issue of determining the proper nut application. If no one can answer this little puzzle, then I'll certaintly take your advice and get new nuts. Thanks.

Dude!! I had the exact same problem when I switched mine out to V&H pipes.. two nuts went on great, and the other two started to cross-thread, and when we switched em they went on better. There's some shenanigans afoot... I'd get two nuts that go on easy at the ol' hardware store. I battled with getting mine on carefully and it took a while.

Okay. We got a consensus, so I'm not nuts about my nuts!
Maybe someone can enlighten us?

When I put the T-header on, the rear flange bolted up fine, but the front one was a bear. I believe they are standard fine thread. I swapped out the front two as they were making me nervous.
