Well I have to agree with you. I have a manuel and it didnt help one little bit on trying to find the tach signal on my 06 FXDI,... matter of fact neither did the instructions that came with the H-D tach, but luckily some guys on this forums had the answer. There is alot of helpful info in there, but sometimes the voices of experience on her is a lil more helpful at times.
here's something that's starting to **** me off...someone posts about something they're having trouble with and asks a question...4 guys pipe up and say "get a manual" Well, no ****, sherlock. If the guy had a manual he wouldn't be asking. He needs help now, not in a week when his manual comes in. If you have no valuable info then don't bother posting your helpful 'get a manual' comment.
I agree with your first comment.
Value added from a 'get a manual' post is about the same asthe'whatever oneyou like' post when people ask for others opinoins on different models of bikes, or colors;
When I started wrenching on my Springer one day to install a new cam I wasn't sure about the "play" so I asked on a newsgroup forum and stated that I had a manual.
One response was "If you can't read then don't wrench". I did have someone respond with the procedure to check the "play" .
So it doesn't matter if you have a manual or not or just don't understand something in it, there are a**holes out there and you have to ignore them.
I'm gonna install my braided clutch cable and brake cables today, is anyone gonna be around incase I have a question or should I RTFM. ?
I haven't got a manual for my Dyna yet because most of the manuals I've bought for other bikes in the past have been borderline useless to me.They usually collect dust in my garage till long after I sell the bike.The Dyna however is the first bike I've ever owned that you may need a manual to change the oil.
I mostly agree with you. If I know the answer, which usually I don't, then I add it. But my last post, which included the answers as far as I knew them (for a model I do not own) with the suggestion to read the manual...referred to the owner's manual, not the service manual.
If someone is here posting questions that can be answered with the owner's manual, I don't think it's too bad to mention they really should spend a minute reading it
