Yea, the cut down bagger shocks are a little expensive if you buy them new. But I like the idea of being able to adjust the air pressure for when I ride 2 up. Im just going to sell my Burly set up and put the money towards the BB shocks. Oh, and if you just lower the rear, your stock kick stand will work fine. Its was only when I installed the drop ins that I needed the shorter stand.
Thanks for your reply. Did you end up changing your exhaust? I do have the reduced reach seat on but I have mid controls, which I really like.
Went to V&H big radius 2 into 2
We tried several makes but these work the best for us. If you do change you can get the quiet baffle on the straight's but not the curved like we have.
You do not need to modify your stand. Just don't lean your bike towards an incline. Very easy to grind on the tab of the stand to adjust lean angle though, if you feel its necessary to make you feel better at night. My bike is still on stock, unmodified stand.
That brings to mind, my Hugger had a stand that was too short. I remember I had to be careful not to park it leaning towards a declining angle, or I couldn't get it off the stand!
I do plan on lowering both front and rear though, so I think I'll get the kick stand modified or just get another one.
I have never sat on a street bob so it is very possible the wide glide is lower in the factly state. With one inch lowered I can sit up on my feet.and.there is around 6 inches between the sat and straddle.
And, how come Burly sells their's in a kit for front and rear. But Progressive you have to buy separately? Progressive is more expensive also. Hmmm.
I wondered about that too. I bought the shocks by themselves. Later I tried to get the drop ins but they wouldnt sell them seperatley. Had to get the springs from JP
im 5' 8" 150 on a 05 fxd with the burly slammer kit. Stock exhaust, stock kickstand and bare bones seat.
bike look sweet and is the most comfortable of all the harleys ive rode.
but
Last season i crashed on a right handed corner due to exhaust scraping.
Bent my kickstand going over speed bumps slowly and scrape the crap out
of the left side of the frame.
Granted i ride the thing like my old crotch rocket, so its not all the lowering kit.
All in all if you get the burly slammer kit, forget about rippin through twistys or
parking on the wrong incline.
My suggestion if you do go with the lowering kit, Get some kind of exhaust that
sits higher, a new kickstand and consider taking off left passenger peg and bracket.
To answer your question in my opionion based on how i like to ride.....
YES the burly slammer kit is too low and i wouldnt have done it knowing
what i know now
