Starter after Primary Removal
New to Harley and new to the site.I just purchased an 03' Dyna Wide Glide and the first peice of matenence was the replacement of the rear shift lever.Required r & i of primary cases. Not to dificult of a job but now after re assembly starter sounds like it's kicking out but the engine is not turning over.Is it something I done wrong or just a coincidence.Should I pull case again or ??? Any help appreciated.
Welcome to the forum.
Did you remember to fold over the locking tab that secures that really long skinny screw securing the spring loaded starter gear? If not, it'll unscrew itself in a heartbeat and the starter will spin but not the motor.
( Don't forget to disconnect your battery if you're going back in there and messing with it!)

I put everything back as was.Don't know if I improperly put that spring/bolt and such in correctly as in somehow not allowing starter to engage on ring gear.Just wonder if somebody else might have run into the same thing.Everything went back in the way it came out.
ya sounds like you may have tqed the hell out of the starter pin bolt for the gear.
i am talking about the bolt in the top right corner on the starter gear, also it is pretty common for that to be misaligned when you install the inner primary. so be sure the starter bolts went in strait

I took the outer primary back off this morning and inspected everything and all seemed fine.Hit the starter and it kicks out and engages the fly wheel perfectly! At that point I made sure the the starter gear assy as it enters the primary case and the bushing integrated into the cover are oiled for ease of movement.Put it all back together tapping the starter every so often to ensure it continued to work as I went. All is fine now. Thanks for everybodies input.
