Hello, my name is Tree, And I am an idiot (Mikuni carb tech)
My bike is scheduled to be thrown at a dyno this saturday, and while doing a basic tune-up, I noticed that the throttle would only go 3/4ths open. I tried adjusting the cables- but no change. I tore the throttle housing off (lost the brass "pegs" that go on the cable ends- took 3hrs to find them) removed the cables, checked them over, and reassembled. still the same. I finally noticed the entire throttle cable bracket (on the carb) moving. The screws had vibrated loose, and one had fallen out. Replaced the missing one, tightened the rest, and voila- fixed.
Only took 5hrs to do a 30 second job....
Moral of the story- check that (the bracket) for movement before disassembling everything.
At least you got it fixed before the dyno run. I think we've all done something like that, once it's over you realize it was just a learning experience.
i seem to have more than my share of those "learning experiences" lol

And it seems that they are only on my personal vehicles...
With as much de-tuning as I have done with this damn thing (doubled up base gaskets, thicker head gaskets, different cams- installed 4 degrees retarded to reduce cylinder pressure at low/mid rpm, took the timing out so it will run on 93 octane without detonation)- I probably shouldn't have been concerned with full throttle... but my brain says "Dyno.... NEED MOAR POWER!!!!" Definitely don't want to get up there and look like a jackass.
I am hoping for something around 100hp (actually have a bit of a bet on that)- but I recon we'll see come saturday.
I want to know why it is always so hard to find those little parts no matter how small and clean the area is? and if it falls in the bike it is usualy lost for ever
