I use mine often with a ThrottleMate attached for quick engaging and release.

I've never used it and won't and don't see the point in it. My hands there anyway, so why bother?

Use it quite a bit on longer runs on the interstate. No problems.

You've never been on a long highway ride and wanted to take your throttle hand off the bar for a minute?

I see your point, but I'd ask myself why I bother with seat padding or suspension? My butt is already there and will fit without the padding and the bike will roll just fine as a hardtail. To me, it's about comfort and a lever that isn't intrusive and requires no more effort than pressing the turn signal makes sense. Manually turning the stock **** is a different story completely, from a safety and convenience perspective.

I use mine quite a bit- just tight enough to hold the throttle, but loose enough to roll out of it if needed. Makes it much easier to light cigarettes at highway speeds.
