I am fixin to upgrade the super glide (2006) from 88 to 98 via the Hammer bolt on kit.
I have a few questions for the forum maybe someone can offer some advice.
I just had a baby so funds are tight and I am planning to set up the engine little by little
the issue im having is I can decide on a cam. Right now I am running stock then the thunderheader and a/c. When I upgrade the jugs I wont be doing head work yet or cams, as I have no idea where I want to go with the cams ADVICE welcome.
I am making a bar hopper but will be taking the occational 500-600 mile trip 1 or 2 times a year riding double up. in the long run im looking to bump compression also 10.5-11.5 in and around there so suggestions welcome
My advice, and others may disagree, but I'd change the cams first, then do the big bore and the heads at the same time when you can afford it, will save you labor time. As far as cams, pick something that will work with your planned future mods. Personally I run a Wood 555 and am very happy with it, but I started with a 96" and upgraded to a 103", so its a little different setup. I'm sure someone with more knowledge of your setup will chime in with other suggestions.
From my research it seems that you're going to get a bigger gain from cams than the big bore if you're only doing one first.
I agree with cams first.
Then save for jugs and some head work.
I would consider staying with 10.5 compression
Yup, do a good cam that will still work well with a build.
Also, 10.5 is a good CR, I have not had any issues with mine, but if it were any higher I don't think I would trust it on 500-600 mile trips. I took mine on a 1500 mile trip last summer no issues mechanically, just a flat tire
OK so after a little thought im saving and keeping the bike garaged for a bit longer but here is where i am (ATTENTION NEED CAM ADVICE) while I have it down i am doing the 98 in upgrade (the old lady said now or never if you want to spend that money on it) the compression is staying 9.5:1 untill next year when i can afford the head work so basically ill be on a : 98 cu in 9.5:1 CR thunderheader A/C stock heads and while im down there im doing the cams throw them suggestions! I want something that will work with what im doing and the future I prefer low/mid power lets see what you guys can come up with
