I use a novelty helmet, non DOT, all the time. I put my own DOT sticker on it(to keep from being pulled over). Never been stopped and if I go down I don't want to know about it and I don't want to survive! Bowt all Ican say. Dave...
What I always do is carry around a pair of foam hearing protectors (get them anywhere) and stuff them in my ears whenever I get on a freeway or highway.
This knocks out the noise and works great with a half, or full helment.
If you are not running a windshield any helment is going to lift, especially if you have a visor on it. Mostly the wind just wants to blow the hat off the back of your head, choking you in the process...........pg
I crashed once on my sportbike in Hawaii... I was not wearing a helmet. Idid not havea scratch on my head. I was in the military and went to the hospital as I was ate up with road rash everywhere but my head. In the Marines it is against the law to ride without a helmet... On or off base. Of course I had to lie about the helmet, but they believed me as I did not have a scratch on my head. Call me lucky, I never tumbled just slid on my back and side...no impact with my head.
