I usually wear my non DOT **** helmet around town and short trips. When it's cold out, taking long trips, ar going to be on the freeway for a while, i wear my All black HJC full face, smoked shield, that wired with speakers for myiPOD. I haven't riden 300 miles in the spring with no music, the 85 mph wind defening me, and the pain of a large bug hitting my face yet. and I never intend on it. I just take the skull bucket with me on the sissy bar and switch when i get into town.
i use to wear a DOT helmet and a jacket with body armor in it and then as i got more comfortable with my bike i started to change for the unsafer. Now i ride with a non DOT brain bucket cus its way more comfortable and in hot weather i lover ridin down the road with a t-shirt on lettin the wind bounce of my chest and the ink on my arms get sunburned. the DOT helmet use to hurt my kneck when it came to long rides on the highway, couldnt stand it. Not saying my descisions are the right ones but i will say i do what i want and in that im already excepting what the consequences could be.
I have all three. Full face for long trips, especially in cold weather (I'm in Minnesota and start waking the bike up by the end of March). 3/4 with a flip up face shield for day to day around town in city traffic in the cooler weather because like it or not, the full face DOES restrict perepherial vision, it's the nature of the beast. Half helmet for when it's really hot. Don't forget the eye protection, shield or goggles. Got pulled over and reminded that my glasses alone aren't enough with the skid lid, even with the FLTHCUI's windshield.
I have three, 1/2,3/4,and a full with antifog.
Whatever the weather brings on.
I like my 3/4 Bell 500 series most of the time, very cold mornings brings on the FF.
Who ever don't like to wear a FF don't get out in the cold much.
I haven't used my 1/2 helmet in 2 years.
I wear a 1/2 helmet and admit that it is a compromise but I do not care for the restricted vision & hearing of a full face. And I could care less what I *look like* wearing my helmet, I have grown rather fond of my head and will offer it some measure of protection when I ride.
