Hey thanks for the info. All of the turbulence and buffetting that I am getting now is definately comming from below, so I think that the lowers would help me alot on the longer trips. Where did ya get yours from?
i agree with ronnR. The lowers will cure your buffetting issues...i won't take a long trip w/o them anymore.
I'm trying to make some mounts to mount my old softail lowers to my dyna for those long trips. The lowers don't really suit the dyna imo, but they're worth it on longer rides...and you can just remove them when you get wherever you're going.
Geez guys; Take your left arm and make a salute then put it across your chest at 60 mph. If you like what your arm does, get one of my "AeroVest". You don't have to worry about the lowers causing any engine problems at all and it won't change the looks of your bike but it will stop the buffeting and make the ride a BUNCH better. No kidding, and if you don't like the vest for ANY reason just send it back and I'll refund your money. Not trying to spam but this windshield buffeting question has finally been addressed and conquered on the majority of bikes with shields---jack

How well will that work when you're wearing a leather jacket?
The vest has side laces so you get it to fit you while in a t-shirt then when you put on your lether jacket or any warm clothes, all you do is let out the side laces and adjust it to fit, it will adjust almost 2 full sizes. I can wear mine in the summer then adjust to fit over thermals, a quilted long sleeve and my heavy leather jacket, no problem and if your jacket is black, nobody even sees it unless they are up close and personal
when I started looking at windshields for the long hauls, I looked at detachable too. I decided to not spend the extra dough on the hardware. I put mine on before Sturgis in 05 and have never taken it off. The only difference I have noticed is that it keeps some of the bugs, rain and wind off of me; which is a good thing. I have no desire to ride without it now.
I'm going to Sturgis'commando' this year, no shield! Just to say I did it once! It's about a 9 hour ride for me -could prove interesting....
I did it "Commando" in 2004, my first trip to Sturgis. A two and a half day ride, 10 hours each day.
As an earlier poster stated, after installing the shield, he never took it off. I never had a shield, and will not have one for this very reason.
I have the National Cycle Switchback 2-up Shield on the DWG pictured below. The POS shield you see in the picture is a POS sold by HD. Did I mention it is a real POS?
As you can tell I ain't no little guy (6' 6" and 270lbs) and the 2-up allows for the wind to go OVER my head on my DWG. I get no buffeting at all, up to 85MPH. It attaches and detaches in 5 seconds, or less. Takes all of 5 minutes, or less to attach the hardware. There is a lock on one side and 2 keys provided. I take it off whenit is above 75 degrees.

Ole Geezer
Hey Ole, the only picture below or picture at all in your post is the one of you on the bike. Is that the Switch back or the POS HD shield? Inquiring minds want to know...lol, seriously
