So I'm in a dilemma. I just changed my oil a little over 300 miles ago and when I did I just used some non-synthetic HD 20W-50 stuff. Well I've came across some AMSOIL 20W-50 and I want to throw it in. Me being a cheap a$$ I was wondering what would be the harm in just changing the oil and not changing the filter? I mean it is barely even used?
I know what's $15 bucks or so for a filter, I was just curious on everyone's opinion...
No harm at all just changing the oil - if fact I read awhile back that a filter was good for 10,000 miles and that you could skip a filter change at 5000 miles without damage.
But, a highly rated filter is a WalMart SuperTECH # ST4967 for a couple of bucks. It fits most Harleys.

x2. I did that a couple times and never had a problem.
Think about it. You are worried about waiting until next oil change because of non-synthetic oil being in there but are now questioning if you should change out the filter?
Usually one thinks all oils are the same, but the fact is their not. I wouldn't worry about reusing a filter if you replaced the first one that came with the bike. Break residue should be taken out. In your specific case I wold change only because you had different oil and just would take a risk of the two oils reacting in any way that could affect the engine as charle suggests.
