Well the reason for the change is because I just rebuilt my motor. I did 500 miles on regular 20w-50 and had planned on doing another 1000 and change it out, but it's getting hot here and I want to get some synthetic in. Not that I think something will happen, but me and a few buddies were doing some maintenance on our bikes and I figured while it was on the lift I'd change it out.
Usually one thinks all oils are the same, but the fact is their not. I wouldn't worry about reusing a filter if you replaced the first one that came with the bike. Break residue should be taken out. In your specific case I wold change only because you had different oil and just would take a risk of the two oils reacting in any way that could affect the engine as charle suggests.
Dyno and Syn don't react, its Dyno and Vegetable oil that react.
Back to the question, an oil filter is good for two oil changes but if you just had a major rebuild I would change the filter with the oil you ran the bike in on.
Ask yourself one simple question, how much is a new filter? $10?
You got the answer!
I guess my other question is what if I had only started my bike and oil just was in the filter, then would it be ok? How many miles or if any would it be ok to just change the oil? Personally I know no harm would happen by just changing out the oil. I change my oil every 3K, what's an extra 300? My only issue is going from dino to synthetic.

There is no issue with going to Syn from Dyno or vice-versa!!!!!!...Semi-Syn is a mixture of the two and both came out of the ground originally.
There is a heap of BS talked about Syn/Dyno....bottom line is.....they mix just fine!

Good to know brother. Now that I think about it I was a little over 500, more around 600 I think before I changed out my oil/filter the first time after the build. Like I said I have a little over 300 on my second oil change after my build...
