Same dilemma here...I am just going to wait it out considering the conventional oil change was costly enough, twice as much as changing oil in my Jeep!

Personally I see no harm in not changing filter since its basically new, although I would change it if it were my bike thats just me. Obviously the syn oil is compatible otherwise they would not make syn blend!

They say to change the filter a few times after switching to syn oil as there is more detergents which will dirty the filter quicker.

The thing is that unless you break the motor down and clean every last inch inside...you inevitably mix the two.

There is nothing wrong with HD Dino oil, It was me I would wait until I was due for another oil change the ****'s already in there. 3K miles isn't that long.
Also it occurs to me you don't want to change a 15 $ filter yet you would throw out 40$ worth of oil.
And further there is dino, synth and dino/synth blend motor oils. Mixing them won't cause any harm.
I guess that's 3 cents worth!

The only reason I'd change the filter is because of the rebuild. But befor you change your oil make sure the engine is broken in. Some oil is so slippery you can't break in your engine with it. Mixing oils isn't the problem it was 30 years ago.

If you use syn and change at anything less than 5K you are destroying the planet....you can run to 10K on syn, 8K on Dino and 8K if you mix them. I look after a Night Train that goes 20K between oil changes and its fine (on syn).
Very well said, thank you. Oil is so good these days it will last at the very least 5,000 miles - dino oil, synth is good for at least 10,000 miles. Waste of money to change oil just because you believe Amsoil advertising. Fram filters are the worst filters, but everyone thinks they are the best, but keep this in mind, they have the largest marketing budget. So, just because they advertise how good it is doesn't mean it's all true. Do a little research on your own and make an educated decision.
Oil quality has been discussed ad nauseam on all sorts of sites. Here is one I found just doing a quick google search . . .

Ok, so I have a question. If I don't get to ride very much say, only 2000-2500 miles this summer. Do I still change the oil this fall before I put it up for winter? Or can I just throw in some fuel stabilizer, put it on the tender and call it good? I use syn by the way mobile 1. Thanks

Oil quality has been discussed ad nauseam on all sorts of sites. Here is one I found just doing a quick google search . . .

Before you haphazardly bash Fram oil filters maybe you should take some of your own advice and do a little research. Most people complain about the fiber end caps on Fram whereas others have metal. There is a good reason for that. And the more expensive Fram filters do use metal end caps and there is a reason for that, it all makes sense, but I'm not doing research here, you can find it on your own.

I've used Fram most of my life in my cage, but not in my HD, mostly because of ease of purchase I use HD or Mobile 1. I never ever had one engine problem related to the lousy oil filter I was using regardless of brand name. That's over 40 years of oil changes. I'm not say it's the best nor am I saying it's the worst. I am saying for me I have never ever had an oil filter related problem. Most of you guys have no problem buying into the Amsoil myth, seems that's okay and it's what I see being pushed on here the most, I think there's a guy working the system. Advertising in and of itself is "hype" that's the whole purpose of it, to make their product look better than the other guys product, usually by tearing down the other product, not by them making a better product.

Unless you want to buy something like the billet oil filter from "Legend" at around a hundred bucks, I'd say most low level oil filters are not much different from each other.
