Hey guys,
New harley owner of a 2006 street bob and I need some help on vance and hines pipes. I bought to bike with V&H pro pipes and changing to the short shots. The bike rides great and doesn't pop on downhill slopes. Can I just change exhaust and that's it or do I need to get a fuel pak etc...? My air intake isn't modified(I don't think) because it just had the plate that says "sequential port injection" and I think it's stock. Eventually I'm going to put a forward facing intake(probably a couple months) if all I need to do is change pipes and ride!! Please help!
If you have an 06 bike you have heap of things to worry about other than the pipes.
You need to get the rotor looked at and either converted to the 07 alternator or get the heads of the bolts that hold the rotor together welded up ASAP.
Re the original question......you can run it how it is but it will run a heap better with a fuel pak and it gives you flexibility to change the map when you do other stuff to it.

What is the significance of doing this? I'm not much of a mechanically inclined person. It sounds like I'm having a bunch of issues that I'm unaware of...

2006 bikes used the 2-piece rotor and it falls apart without warning, doesn't do a heap of damage but it will strand you with a flat battery and cost you a rotor and a stator. If you fix it now it will save you money and angst.
Pull the primary, if the rotor has a ring of bolts and they haven't been wedled up then get them done straight away. If no bolts then its been converted and you can leave it as is.
They also eat inner primary bearings and there are many theories as to how to fix this.
If you do around 10K miles a year then leave the IPB until it goes south. If you do heaps of miles then go for one of the upgrade options but in my opinion none of them really work but they do extend the interval between fixes.
I would buy an 06 bike in a heartbeat but I am a Harley wrench so its no biggie to me.
Not a heap of issues but do get that rotor sorted or might break down in the middle of nowhere and then the banjos will start playing......
