check out some of DK customs air cleaners they make some great stuff... i am not a fan of the first one as every bike i have rode with one it just bangs my knee the whole timel, but my frineds with them tend to be taller and really like the look of them, i like the looks hate how it rides with it... the lower one is just a stage 1 from HD the backing plate and air cleaner, just no football cover... you cna look up the mud mod to make a cover for it that looks trick and is exposed or our shop can help you make it... if you have nothing yet, look at what DK customs has to offer, they are a site sponser and have some awesome stuff!
i have the top one, with pipes and a tuner mine dynoed out pretty good.....and it holds that whole side of the bike up in a crash..... i like the other one also but don't know about its performance. im pretty sure the difference between most breathers is pretty minimal ... and you would not be able to tell, so go for looks...

would you have to do a tune or something if you were to swap out your breathers?
i was thinking about changing my stock one to something like the bottom one, but didnt know what all is involved.
I'm running a DK Customs 587 & I like it cause it's fairly small & doesn't hit my knee, and it is considerably less expensive than some of the others. Lots of options for covers too.
The only thing you have to be aware of with the 587 that I wasn't, is that the vent bolts that screw into the heads that vent to the air rather than the intake. They release a fine oil mist with sustained high-speed running, that condenses on the carb (from the front bolt) and has to be wiped off after each ride. That happens even if the oil level is correct. Not a big deal, but there it is.
I've got the bottom setup as a Ness BS with the Mud mod cover. It looks really good and is out of the way of my knee, I'm like Joe and the top one wouldn't work for me. As far as I know there's no noticeable performance difference.
I'm running a Figure Machine AC on my 2007 Nightster and it performs great at about half the price of the others. As CADguy said, not a lot of real difference between ACs...http://figuremachine.com/
