Doing post 8 is free. The compensator is $200-$400. Take your choice. These bikes are quite reliable. Usually it's the simple things. I have even seen people have trouble because they simply do not hold the starter button down till they are running. But just offering my opinion. Good luck.

My 07 LR does this after it is hot. Say I stop for gas and when I go to start her up she grinds and sometimes it takes several tries to get the starter to catch. Problem is the starter clutch is bad. I will be changing mine to an All ***** Starter Clutch. They are around $80 and I have heard but have no proof that they are better than the HD ones.

I have this problem sometimes and it seems to be flooding. I have found out that when I restart the bike when it is hot if I turn on the ignition switch and immediately hit the start switch it starts no problem. If I wait for the fuel pump to stop and the light to go out I have the problem you describe. Hope this helps...

OP, mine did the exact samething, til I changed the compensator. Just sayin.
