A Dyna is like driving a Camaro and a Bagger is like driving a mini-van. Just rode my Dyna 1000 miles in 4 days. Now looking at ways to make it more comfy. Lol
As many has already stated, baggers refer to touring.
Dana bikes are cruisers. Biggest thing is the weight, 200-250lbs difference. Different format. Put Dyna shocks on a bagger and see how long they last and what kind of ride you get.
You can tour with a cruiser and be comfortable but not as comfortable as a bagger/touring bike. I did it for years. I did not want a fairing or even a windshield, put hundred of thousands of miles on em. Then my wife got cancer so I got a ultra to give her more or better comfort. It helped her tremendously. Took me a while to get use to the extra weight I will say.
Now that I have had a taste of a touring bike that is all I will tour with.
Short trips under 400 miles in a day the Dyna does great.
We have 2 Dyna's in my shop.
I seen a sportser dressed up at our local dealership, looked good.

Basically the difference is the platform. The Baggers are a more substantial frame (perhaps substantial isn't the correct word but those with real skin know what I mean). Although the motors are similar both being type A motors the other difference is the Dyna's are a wet sump vs a dry sump motor. The B motor is also a wet sump but is a Balanced motor (hence the designation B). Yes I do suppose you could swap the motors from frame to frame but there would be no room to accommodate an oil tank for the dry sump motor on a Dyna. The larger oil capacity of the Bagger frame lends itself to longer distance rides well. This being said there is no reason why you can't lay down a 4-5 tank ride on a Dyna properly set up for comfort.
I purposely designed mine to fit my particular style of riding, longer canyon and back road rides only because freeway rides bore the living crap out of me. Lugging an extra 200 pounds around my style of riding would not be my idea of fun however I do appreciate the RG and SG for what they are. To me the Ultra's are just a little over the top at this point for my specific type of riding.
Now if I had the time to put down some serious miles one way then any of the Ultra's would be the ticket.
My only wish is HD would come up with some sort of cooling set up that is not a V-Rod (and before some thin skinned owner thinks I am slamming them for owning one, I am not, I think they are a pretty cool ride).
Doesn't look all that complicated to me to include a water jacket with fins and blend in a radiator set up into the frame design.

I have been thinking about buying a street glide to add to the family here in the next couple years so I could have a Dyne for running around town and something suited better for long trips but after sitting on a few for some reason they feel really cramped up to me, whereas my WG seems to fit me a lot better. I guess it is the foot control positions but my knees were still coming up over the top of the tank.
I thought about maybe mounting hard bags to my WG, but I really like how lean the WG is. I don't really see a massive size difference in the frame on the two besides the neck being stretched out on the SG but I guess it is there. I'm not a fan of highway pegs, and I think having floorboards would be nice, but I think I would have to do some serious repositioning on them for it to be comfortable.
I think I'll go abead and set up a new rear fender and hard bags so I can just pull the rear off my bike, bolt on the fender and bags, and go when I need something for long distance. I have gone cross country before on an older rigid mounted sportster with just a backpack and bedroll before, but that was a pretty tough ride considering the amount of vibration and the crappy riding position.
In the end of it all it doesn't matter to me what it would be called, just that it goes down the road.
