Default Adjusting Fork Lock

This feature hasn't worked in a long time on my '08 Fatbob. The pin doesn't align with the hole in the lower tree. Is there a way to adjust this to make them function correctly?

Thanks

Mine did that during year one or two. The area where you put the key into lock unscrews. just loosen it enough for the lock mechanism to rotate. Leave the key in the lock to move it back and forth. Place your handlebars turned to the left, you will have to look where the lock pin is supposed to meet the groove. Once they are lined up lock it and then tighten the lock and your done. This probably happened when you or the previous owner held the lock in the locked position before the handlebars got turned causing dis-alignment to the pin. No big. I think it's covered in the manual which if you don't have you should invest.

Oh and I almost got denim when I bought mine, was even sitting on the bike and had given my salesman the go ahead to draw up the papers thinking it was mine when another salesman walked over and started taking #'s off the bike. Hey what are you doing/ this bike is sold sir!! aw Fkuc

Is there a special tool needed? I looked at this over the weekend and can't seem to understand how to do this.

Yeah sorry I thought it out after. You need to take the decal with the lock - unlock icons off ( just peel it) to find the thread underneath. There will be a piece with holes in it and you just have to find some way to get that to turn. No special tool needed. I took my decal off and once it's off you just need to stick a long nose plier in there and give it a twist.

The fix:

Well I got a mirror and a flashlight looked up and found out there is a cavity next to the lock cylinder and it looked like the pin was out of alignment with the fork pin receiver... So I put my screwdriver in the cavity and pushed against the lock cylinder and bingo the pin moved into the indent and my key which was always a pain to lock up and turn worked great... better than it ever did. So It may help you if yours locks up when your on the road to have screwdriver in the tool pouch... I didn't apply a lot of pressure to move the cylinder so it is loose and probably should be brought in but at least you can make it home...[sm=biker2.gif]

True and if you remove the little decal and tighten the cylinder it will be harder to put it out again.

I'm pretty sure they get knocked out of alignment from turning the key to or near the lock position and then turning the bars to the left, as the pin will be below and outside the lower triple clamp, and will be pushed by that cam like profile regardless of how tight it is. That's how mine was misaligned, and when I pushed the pin forward it got tighter anyway, also got it better aligned than it came from the factory so it doesn't hang up or have any resistance going into the lock position. I would at least do as I suggested above before messing with the cover, mines been good since....six plus years.

I totally agree! It's just been so long lol I think mine happened in '08! And your post was the one I found back then that helped me fix mine! I'm sure I wrote in it!!

@ roguepup it will help to always remember what ws6 wrote so this never can happen again. Or just make sure you have the handlebars turned left almost all the way before you engage that key.
