I don't know if this will help anyone else out if their lock screws up, but, I fixed mine. As I said in my first message mine wouldn't lock, you could put your finger under the fork and feel the indent where the pin goes in to lock the fork, mine wouldn't go in so the key wouldn't turn all the way.. Well I got a mirror and a flashlight looked up and found out there is a cavity next to the lock cylinder and it looked like the pin was out of alignment with the fork pin receiver... So I put my screwdriver in the cavity and pushed against the lock cylinder and bingo the pin moved into the indent and my key which was always a pain to lock up and turn worked great... better than it ever did. So It may help you if yours locks up when your on the road to have screwdriver in the tool pouch... I didn't apply a lot of pressure to move the cylinder so it is loose and probaly should be brought in but at least you can make it home...[sm=biker2.gif]
Same here and the fix is above in bold, If you turn the forks to the right and turn the key to the lock position the pin will clear the whole lower triple clamp, then when you turn the forks to the left the curve on the lower triple clamp acts like a cam and will push the pin out of alignment.
Same happened to me, and i realized the pin was out of alignment. Must have tried to put it down early and bumped it and it pushed back. I just used a screwdriver to push it a little forward and then it worked just fine!
Th lock on my 07 SB is also a pain in the ***,its very sticky and just never moves smoothly even when lubricated.
Beware of using WD40 long term on your lock, and probably other sprays with high levels of solvent.
I have found with BMW ignition locks (this is my first Harley)that during the winter months when there is a lot of water and road crud around the lock becomes stiff and when sprayed with WD it frees of for a short while but gets progressively worse.
Then I was told that the solvent inWD40 dissolves the existing grease or heavier lubricant in the lock eventually cleaning it out altogether.
Since then I have only used oil or light grease in the locks and had no further problems.
The problem I was having is once I locked the steering it wouldn't unlock so I made the dealership order me new one and replace it. Now as far asI know its fine now after it being F'd up I just stopped locking it bu the key doesn't stick anymore and I haven't had to fight with it to turn.
