Loud fifth gear is a very common complaint with stock Factory Six-Speeds. So BAKER DRIVETRAIN has stepped forward with an upgrade that will surely make your stock transmission sound so quiet that you’ll think BAKER built the whole dang thing! Our kit features helical cut diamond ground gears, 28% wider bearings, a 1/8” thick bearing retainer plate, and a billet aluminum bearing door. All this combines to give you the advantage of a quieter 5th gear, and no clutch lever walking. Additional features that the F6F offer are: • No 5th gear whine
• Reduces drivetrain lash in 5th gear
• 12 pt. ARP fasteners
• Billet aluminum bearing door – chromed
• Quiet diamond ground gears
• Heavy duty bearings
• No wimpy snap rings
• Direct bolt in assembly
• Recal box – INCLUDED! Available for the 2006 Dyna, and all 2007 H-D models (excluding Sportster and V-Rod) with the 6 speed transmission. All that wrapped up with BAKER’s dependable and unbeatable 2 year warranty
Thanks for the post Willie...I once posted about the 5th gear noise, and got a lot of responses. But I only noticed it after I installed a windshield. Once I was told it was normal by not only people on message boards, but by some folks at the dealer as well, I stopped worrying about it.
By any chance, do you have any idea how much they want for this kit? I didn't see it on the website (I didn't look beyond the page you linked). I doubt I would sink a substantial amount of money into my trans just because of a noise...especially one that is very common...but it's still good to know this is available.
Thanks again man!
Thanks for the info. But my 2006 Dyna 6 speed is quiet. I have a Windshield and The Tranny is quiet. The engine makes the same sound at 35 MPH that all my Harleys have made. A soft Tapping. To Date my 2006 Dyna is the best running Bike I have ever had.
My tranny is relatively quiet as well...and I wasn't aware of any noise at all until I installed a windshield. Then one day on a long ride, with the windshield on, I started to hear what sounded like a high pitched squeal/whine/whistle,etc at around 50 mph in 5th gear. It's not especially loud...I can just barely hear it...but I definitely do hear it. That is the only time i hear any noise....but I was still concerned...so I did some searching around online and have tons of people hearing the same thing...and it's always in 5th gear...or at least for most people. Once I heard that...no worries. As long as I know I'm not the only one.
the small amout of whine you might hear is the same whine you would hear if you had a 05 dyna. in a 06 the 5th and 6th gears are not helical cut like gears 1,2,and 3. and in a 05 dyna none of the gears are helical cut.
