That happened to me with my Superglide. It would accellerate great, idle good but at sustained speeds, it would get real balky. Sputtering, sneezing, and such especially at lower speeds.
Talked to my mechanic about it and he steered my toward the crankshaft position sensor. Bigger than do-do that's what it was! And, I didn't get any codes!
Cheap fix; I think the sensor was $50+/- and about 1/2 hour of my time. (2 beers)
Gave her a healthy drink of carb cleaner, nothing changed, Disconnected battery and re tightened terminals, nothing changed. Im still curious as to the fuel spraying it comes out when i turn the key on and its priming then stops with the pump and when i start it up its spraying constantly, is this normal, i would think the fuel has to leave the pump because its cycling all the time i just want to know for my peace of mind, and im gonna try and get a cranksensor this week, its worth a shot. Feel free to keep ideas coming and thanks for the reply's!
Beside the internal fuel filter is what the book calls a regulator just a little round thing, the back side has a little hole in it, its made that way. Thats where the fuel hoses out, if no one knows for sure put your ear to the gas cap tight and flip the ignition on mine you can hear spraying. The internal gas lines where checked twice and i can see exactly that its coming out that hole.
