$600 does seem like a lot to pay just for labor but if you can afford it whose to tell you what to do with your hard-earned cash.

I thought $600 was cheap. They charge more than that around here.

That said - everybody's right... you can do this yourself. It's a gigantic pain, but not overly complicated. The clutch cable is the most difficult part. You don't need the snap ring pliers if you loosen the cable all of the way at the front adjuster.

You will need a new c-clip for the clutch lever (they are like 50 cents from HD). I've done this job 4 times and each time the clip has gone flying across the garage.

Youtube is your friend if you get stuck. There are lots of videos out there about taking apart the deutsch connectors to replacing the clutch and throttle cables.

The Burly instructions suck (and I had bad luck with their cables, but that's another story) so it is wise to invest in the service manual. It's cheap insurance especially since you will be super confident in tackling all kinds of things after you finish this job.

Get the service manual and do it yourself. Not that difficult. You might also go to the regional section and see if some other HDForum members are in your area and have done it and are willing to help out.

I know I would do it and only for a couple beers and meeting some fellow riders.

Good luck.

Nothing beats a set of barnett clutch and throttle cables. Magnum brake lines are superb. That would be my only rec over the burly cable kit. If you have a 2012 and up dyna, you have from the factory a long enough set of control wiring to do 16inch apes. If 2011 you'll be doing the cut and splice.

I've done 2 sets of bars (both apes) and while they require some patience, the end result is satisfying. Get a manual, some basic tools (as mentioned the craftsman basic sets are great), buy the manual and a jack. Your wallet will thank you.

I second the barnett clutch cable. Put one on the fat bob and it's really nice.

I'm gonna ask some of my rider buddies if they can lend a hand, but I'm not full retard at mechanical stuff, just not that great. I appreciate all the answers from you guys.

I love working on my bike . It,s almost as much fun as riding it .
Also when your done you can say I do my own work and mean it .
I service my bike on a rainy day or a day I can,t ride . It takes me all day and I really enjoy it . A big plus is the satisfaction of doing it yourself .

look at it this way ,How much do you earn for a working week (income) so they want you too pay that much for a simple bar swap. AS guys have said try to do it, or ask if some one from here that lives nearby can help you, a few BEERS later its done and you've made a new rideing buddy.,,ive never done a Harley bar swap but plenty of jap bikes, trust me its really easy too do about 2 hours work if that
