When I started, I was too young to be scared! It was a friends Honda road bike with a 9 speed transmission...5 speeds and 4 neutrals! I think it was 55cc! When I soon after bought my own bike...it was a 90cc road bike! A mid sized machine! LMAO!

What a blast, and I'm really glad I picked up RLAP. And most off all, I am having a lot of fun.
Sounds like you're a quick learner! The friction zone is the answer and RLAP will re-enforce that for you. That, and practice. Once you get more comfortable, try to get a little more aggressive in your low-speed maneuvers and you'll really start to see the power of the friction zone and rear brake.

One note: Try to avoid lugging the bike. These bikes far prefer to be revved than to be lugged. Give it some throttle! The right grip is the fun part anyway.

Oh, and congrats.. nice choice.

I agree with HBomb that is an awesome first bike. Of course I only had $250 dollars to spend on my first bike. Enjoy that Fatbob and take it slow. You are in for a great time.

Congrats and nice work on the bike... now's the best time to get out on a long ride, the course is fresh in your head and you'll get a good feel for the bike after a few miles.

I had an old Suzuki GS650 for my first couple of years and took it out for a 1000 mile weekend trip the weekend after I passed my course, unforgettable weekend!

Once I sold it and bought my Street Bob I was kinda worried I'd bitten off more than I could chew but after a couple weeks I found that I'd only bitten off more than my wallet can chew

Enjoy the hell out of it man, and keep her rubber side down!!

You and I did the same thing, I took the MSF course then bought a Street Bob - I'd never even been on a motorcycle prior to the course. Bought the bike about a month after the course was completed (insurance, license, etc etc...) and got going! Seriously though you will learn to love that friction zone, it's the key to safe low-speed maneuvers. AND believe what your instructors said - no danger in using that friction zone to your heart's content!

Congratulations on the new ride brother, welcome to the world of 2 wheels! You're gonna like it here!
