Thanks Don, I was worried the 70T might be a bit big for the belt.

EricInNCa Well, after reading the very detailed step by step process, I have to say: Awesome write up Alan!

I always planned on switching mine out and then I just happened to take my bike to the dealership due to an inner shifter shaft oil leak. While they were taking care of that for me, they discovered that my stator was fried. I went ahead and had them swap the pulley while they had things apart. It looks like I'm glad I did. It's a great mod.

Again, Great write up and the photos were most excellent! Kudos!
Thanks for the compliment, means a lot coming from a guy that has a bike like yours that made my eyes go big when I joined the Forum. Yeah, it is a great mod, i think the gearing is much better now - a lot of people think that it might make some of the lower gears less usable but I think the lower gears are better too - the acceleration is quicker, and I looked down today and saw I was shifting to 3rd at 45mph - seems good to me.

Thanks for the great write-up with pics. I did the 30T change on my '07 FLHT and was impressed with the new feel of the bike. I bought the 30T for my '09 FXDF and am gathering a few other parts before getting into it. We had to heat the nut to finally get it to break loose on the FLHT, so I think this time I am going to drill it and cut it off.
Thanks again.

Drilling sure works, just need to be very careful not to drill the threads that the nut threads onto. You will probably drill into the old pulley a bit, but that should not matter even if you do want to keep/sell it. It sure helps to have nice drill bits too.

To be honest I don't think I would ever be in 6th gear at 60mph, but according to the Andrews chart(all this info is some math formula) I would be at 2395 rpm and on the old 32T it would be 2251 rpm.

I generally shift into 6th at 60mph as long as I'm not in a situation where I need to be accelerating or climbing any hills. Another couple hundred rpm would be nice there, 5th is just a little to low, and 6th is just a little too high. Might have to do the 30t next winter.

One question I had was: during all this heavy torquing, did the bike want to move at all? Was it on the jack the whole time?

I did mine all on the jack, and heck yea the bike moved. When I did anything that required high torque I lowered the jack till both tires were firmly on the ground but the bike was still standing upright. At times I even had my Son pushing down on the end that wanted to come up.

Ditto for me, except I used my daughter to help push down. I also strapped the bike down when it was off the ground. Now the worst was trying to get that sprocket bolt off, putting in on was tough but not as bad as trying to get it off.

Hows squeezing that new clutch? Did you get it adjusted the way you wanted it?
