Default SERT or Power Commander V

Just got back from Rolling Thunder and want to change my pipes to V&T Big Shot Staggered and air cleaner to SE (that points forward to get it out of my way when I on my highway pegs).

What are your opinions on the best for a tuner?

Welcome back and thanks for serving! I believe you get what you pay for(usually) - if you like to know what is going on with your tune and are willing to spend some hours to get to know all its' features - then go Powervision. If you ever change anything in the future - no problem, just reflash the ECM with a new tune and do a couple of Autotunes and you're good. It is not a piggyback either, you can leave it in the house or you can mount it and moniter a varity of ECM info.

I've got the SERT on mine and no issues. Although Im not interested in fiddling with the mixture after it has been optimized and dont think I can tune it better than a dyno tune. I had the engine tuned after breakin from the engine mods and I dont plan to make any adjustments to the A/F mixture. The SERT is also the same for future mods. Just take the module with the bike to have it tuned.

Having had a Power Commander on my last bike and a SERT on my present bike I can tell you I like the SERT better. Both function as they should but the fact that the SERT is not "piggy-backed" makes me more comfortable. I am not a tuner I just load and go......

+1

I've had Power Commanders on a few race bikes. There's nothing wrong with the PC and they are quite good with tuning the engine, the only thing that bothers me is the piggyback aspect. There have been a few people complaining of them getting wet and failing. It doesn't seem like a chronic issue though.

The SERT is a good tuner and it re-programs the ECU rather than fool it like the PC. Both methods work fine, but the PC requires piggybacking the device.

As Alan said though, the Power Vision is better than either one. It doesn't need to piggyback and the auto tune eliminates the need for a dyno.

What A/F ratio will i have with the SERT? I'd like it a little richer to reduce the heat. Is making it richer an advantage? My bikes been running fine with the stock setup but I've read posts saying richer is better.

The SEPRT has an "Auto Tune Function" also. But you have to buy the software and cables. I did purchase that stuff just in case I ever feel the need to tinker. But, like someone already said, I don't think I can do any better than the Dyno Tec.

If you have ever seen an AFR chart, you would realize that your question is kinda open-ended.

The AFR maps you will use with all the decent tuners will be richer than any stock tune, but richer is not always better. With my PV, I was sent a complete tune from Fuel Moto and within that tune there is a AFR map that I can see on my computer and I can, and have changed some of the values to improve my tune.

If you are not interested in getting involved with your tune, then go dyno it with SE Street Tuner or the Pro tuner and be done....... until you do something else.

comes down to those two choices I have heard nothing but bad about the sert. "money out the window" one guy said. so I'm obviously pointing you towards the pc-v. But those other 2 guys are right, if your going to get something worthwhile get a Power Vision from fuelmoto. Jamie backs those and runs all the tunes for those and he will always get you running right.
