Project FXDL --> Bobber begins....
There have definitely been some lessons learned along the way. On my previous 2 harleys, I modded them a little here, a little there, changed the direction I was going and modded them more and more (A.D.D. is expensive). For this one, I wanted to go ***** out and do it all at once, and build it to what I envisioned, and be done with it.
So, I was already ordering parts as soon as I sold my RK, which was a month and a half before I even picked up the dyna. Then, I just ripped it apart without having a manual yet (I have one now). The consequence of my haste was that I threw away a minor part or 2 that I needed, and ordered something that really doesn't fit right (seat). No big deal, I've already ordered the parts I needed, and I'm gonna make the damn seat work, one way or the other :-)
Was just gonna paint the risers and clamp and battery cover, but decided to take them for powder too, since the prices are cheap enough. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have most the stuff back on, minus wheels and handlebars/controls. I'll post some pics when I get that far.
Teaser:
Ran out of time, so I didn't get a chance to drill holes to install the seat mount. That's my next goal, then installing the trees and forks. Still gotta paint the fork sliders. They are gloss black, but I want them satin.
Also, initially, I wanted ZERO chrome on the bike. I've changed my mind. Gonna go ahead and use chrome nuts here and there, and some chrome caps to help break up the black a little bit, and also help to tie in the chrome springs on the seat and what not.
Between work, kids, and sleep, hope to have this thing ready to install wheels, handlebars and controls by next weekend. Still waiting for the powdered wheels, risers, top clamp, and battery cover.
