Just picked up the 2000 FXD and did a total basic overhaul on it, put about 200 miles on it and realize I need a seat that will push me forward more as it has forward controls and I have no mids.
I had a similar problem with the fowards and went with a Danny Gray big seat.
Just enough to park my butt where it belongs. No shifting around.
I am 5'8". That did it for me.
There are other seats out there that will work but this one is stylish, comfortable.
Some also use different fowards.
I'm only 5'1" and have the super reduced reach seat combined with 11" 430's allows me to flat foot so guess I fall into the short guy category. Not overly fussed on the look but the seat does what it's supposed to 3" forward and 1" lower
