first off a manual is your best friend, turn fuel petcock to closed then run engine until it stalls, this will empty the carb of gas.

First off loosen the throttle cables at the grips, loosen the choke cable nut, remove air cleaner assembly, remove throttle cables from carb, remove fuel line, watch for any gas that may come out, put an old rag under the carb. remove vacuum line from back of carb. gently wiggle carb out of the intake manifold, watch for choke cable doesn,t get hung up on anything.

Things to watch for when disassembly of carb are as follows. If you remove accelerator pump cover, look for 2 very small o'rings and check pump diaphragm . when reinstalling the slide diaphragm and top cover , be carefull not to rip or bind. DO NOT put pressure on float, if you remove the main jet a silver needle jet metal tube will fall out, make sure when reinstalling this item that the larger opening goes in first and protrudes into the carb throat (see attached link for proper install of the silver needle jet ) http://www.cv-performance.com/harley...tuning-issues/

Take pics of assembly, this helps with re-assembly

Hope this works for you

I have the same type of problem with my 2kfxdx. It likes to cut out when first started even when warm untill it reaches peak running temp. I'll just pull out the enrichner **** a bit and all is good. A band aid fix yes, but no worries. The plugs always show normal wear.

how did u make out, did you check the pilot jet, small hole beside the main jet, use a small flat screwdriver and take it out and check to make sure its not blocked, this jet controls idle and anything under 3/4 throttle

Ok. I just spent the after noon workin on the carb. When i took the carb off the outside of it was completely black even the intake hole so i disassembled everything and removed both jets,needle,float....etc and used two cans of gumout carb cleaner to get all the crud out of it then using compressed air to blow everything out. Put everything back together. Removed filter and cleaned added good gas and bam fired right up. I ran it at idle for 30 minutes never once died took it out for about 15 minutes and all good even has a little more get up.im so relieved. This is my first harley ever so i wasfreakin out a little considering i havnt had the bike but 2months. Thank you everyone for all ur help

Well. I guess i spoke to soon as i was on my way home from work today and it did the exact something it did before. Everytime i slow down where the bike had to idle and it would die. Got it home and still it would die even if i pulled the choke out

Re check your idle jet. Pull it and either look in the hole or run a fine gauge wire in it to check f=for a piece of debris. I dont know if this works on MC carbs but I used to rev up a motor and slam my hand over the opening. This creates a large vacuum and can suck gum/dirt out of the jets.

sorry to hear, have you tried adjusting the fuel/air mixture screw, turning counter clockwise will add more fuel , this can be found behind the float bowl at the back of the carb, turn it clockwise until it is LIGHTLY seated, then turn it counter clockwise 2.5 to 3 turns. you may need to adjust the idle after this is done.

Good Luck, really is frustrating when they don't run right
