did you look at the vacuum line that goes from the rear of carb to the petcock, if it is disconnected your bike won't start, or if it has cracks then there will not be enough vacuum to open the petcock, these bikes have a vacuum operated petcock, this is to prevent flooding of the carb if float valve is stuck
sometimes when removing the oil filter the wires can get damages because it is so close.Below is how to check for diag codes, as for the actual testing of the CPS, you can probably find info on this forum, you could also remove the sensor and give it a cleaning to see if that helps. look on left side of bike at the filter, just in front of the filter is the sensor held with I think is one screw, remove carefully and clean it, it could be gunked up.
Turn the key in the ignition to the "Off" position. Turn the "Run/Stop" switch to "Run." Push and hold the odometer "Reset" button. Hold the "Reset" button and do not release it yet.
Turn the key to "Ignition," but don't start the engine. Release the odometer "Reset" button. Wait for the odometer to indicate the bike is in diagnostic mode by displaying "Diag." Push the odometer reset button and then release it when you see the "P" in the menu selection flashing.
Wait for the bike to complete the diagnostic of the electronic control module and the ignition control module. Write down the codes that are displayed after the diagnostic is complete. Code PO 374 indicates a failed or faulty crank position sensor due to a synchronization error.
Thanks for the info i will try that tomorrow. I also checked out the link u put about the carb i will also look at it again tomorrow and see if there is something i missed
Thanks i appreciate it.cant really afford to take it to a mechanic right now. If u kno what i mean
You said that you cleaned the carb and it ran fine for a short period and then the same problem reappeared. That tells me you more than likely have a fuel problem. Did you check fuel filter or do you have a filter? Seem to be that you are getting trash in carb.
testing a CPS , this is what I have found, hope it helps
the only way to test the ckp, is to UNPLUG it from the ecm, put a multimeter on the 2 wires, (R/B and B) and crank the engine. it should show 1-5 VA/C.
5. this is hit or miss, some ckp show good when they are not, but if it shows bad, it is.
