First off...GREAT post, helped clear up some thoughts. Between you and CARLTEX when I put some new bars on my SG in a couple of weeks, it should go "smoothly". I like the idea about the oil can for bleeding the brakes, saves a lot of pumping.
Did you use that 4mm/or5/16" shim for the front brake lever when you took off the brake lever assy?? The tech manual states you may have problems with the front brake switch not working if you dont. Just curious if you used the shim.
Again, great post. You should write "how to" manuals!

Great posting here indeed glebo.
You will be purchasing a new brake light switch
if you don't go by the book.
I just told them I wanted a +6 over stock cable as long as it wasn't black vinyl. I'm not sure what the hold up is but I'm getting a little nervous. It's getting into the 30's for highs here in Iowa this week, so this week I won't be itching so much.
You have produced one of the best how to posts I have ever read. I am an electrician and am pretty good at anything using my hands. I have to tell I was dreading the brake job. I am almost done with the bars (still have to do the clutch cable and then I am diving right into the brake job. Thanks a lot and safe riding to you.
I don't know whether to thank you for the incledible job you did on the step by step, or to call you some choice words for making me miss the apes. Awesome post, a definate sticky!
awsome post. ive been wanting to do bars for a while now. taxes are in, so now i have the $. this post should really help with the project, seems like anyone with a mild sence of mechanics could do this with the help of your post. thanks
Well, trotter helped me out so I will have a clutch cable today or tomorrow. I can't wait to button this thing up. It's supposed to get near 80* tomorrow. It's getting closer!
Update, I received the cable today and it took a couple hours to install cable and button everything up. I got about 1/2 mile down the road and remembered that I forgot to tighten tranny drain plug completely. Other than that everything went pretty well. The last thing I have to do is install the progressive 11" 412s. I should be able to get that done tomorrow! Pics will follow.
Absolutely, I had a blast doing it and saved over $500 in labor alone. It's a good way to learn about your bike and if you ever have a problem with your wiring you will know a few things to diagnose the problem. Shocks will be going on in the next couple days.
