2007 FXDC always started immediately at the touch of the button. Recently it has become a hard start only on the 1st start of the day. I'm a daily rider. Bike would run great at all times and start right away during subsequent daily starts. Next day the same thing, hard to start only the 1st time. Battery is fully charged and fairly new. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advice.
spark plugs and wires. Check the plugs for dirt corrosion its a cheap fix to do a tune up. Air filter plugs wires lube the cables change oil. If you have the stuff its about a 2 hour task cost depends on what you buy and where. under $150 for the most part
my 2008 street bob started doing the same thing right after i bought a tank of gas at valerero. I was sure it was the gas , it would crank and crank but not fire up . Saturday I ran the battery dead at arby's , had to call for a tow , after about 50 minutes the tow truck still had not arrived , so i thought i would go give it another try , it started right up, just as the tow truck pulled into the parking lot . The driver was pretty cool about it . I then went straight to the harley shop and the guy behind the service desk at waco harley , who by the way has always been extremely nice and very helpful , ran the codes and thought i needed a new system relay ( $8.00) . i rode it all day the next day and never had another issue.
Thanks for all your responses. I took it to the Harley dealer who tested the fuel system and found out numerous leaks in the system including inside the tank (some just pinholes). It's getting repaired now. I live in the desert (Phoenix) and the bike is a 2007 with 37K on it. Desert life is hard on stuff but you can ride almost every day. It will be ready tomorrow, although it won't be inexpensive, but what is nowdays? Who could have tested the pressure of the fuel system?! Not me, that's for sure, don't know how or have the equipment. Thanks.
Had the same problem and replaced the fuel line in the tank. I don't have any way to check fuel pressure but with those leaks you can hear it pissing on the inside of the tank if you don't have too much gas in there. The trick is to route the lines so they don't rub against the tank which is why that happens in the first place. That being done, it shouldn't be a problem anymore.
What I'm curious about is where else did they find leaks?
