I have highway pegs, a new mustang vintage for just me and a sundowner for two up riding with me and momma... But, a friend of mine who rides a sporty has the same problem you're having..
I would submit that it may also be windforce against you while riding..
on the hairdryer (ricer) there is less of a "profile" of you up in the wind for the air to "grab"..
on the Dyna (without a windshield I'm guessing..) a large(r) portion of your upper torso is exposed to the forward wind force which then transfers to your hips in the form of stress to keep you in place while riding.. That, coupled with the crampy mid pegs for us long leggers.. could be the source of your problem..

This man has something here. After three long test rides of the FXDC at Americade my hips were tight. I had a quick disconnect windshield put on my bike when I picked it up new from the dealer and have not had any problems whatsoever. I also have a 30" inseam. Food for thought...
the cramps are generally brought on in town very early in the ride so i dont think the wind has to do with the cramps though it does have everything with me not being comfortable on the bike at speed and part of the reason im looking at forward controls. its hard to explain if you have never ridden a crotch rocket but the way your legs sit on a crotch rocket feels very natural and on mids on my harley i just feel akward. part of which is caused by me not wanting to have my feet straight on the pegs to not depress the brake or shifter if that makes sense. it sounds like fwd controls are whats going to help the most to alleviate my problem so im going to try that first i reckon.

You may want to go to this site and place yourself on different Harleys with forwards and see how you fit. I'm 5'10" w a 30" inseam and forwards stretch my legs too far out and cause a quick, continual pain in the lumbar region of my back. Like was said forwards aren't right if there is no bend in the knees, as it places all of your upper weight on the butt in one spot causing pain.... Just a thought, here....
I just traded in a Street Rod with mid controls for the same reason. I couldn't do more than an hour without horrible cramps. I got a Fat Bob with forward controls, and have done multiple 6+ hour trips in the last month with no problems.
Like I said earlier I am using the reduced reach adapters but I also have a c&c seat
I am in close to perfect that I can get.
I can ride all day in comfort.
Mine had forward controls when I bought it and I added the mid mount pegs to the Dyna. That way I can put my feet where I want them to alieve the cramps or pain when riding. Gout doesn't help.
I get this too except its not necessarily a cramp, its my hip popping out of socket. It happens only every so often. Ive found its the way the bike has my legs splayed out to the side(to avoid the air cleaner) and stretched for the forward controls. I used to get it all the time on my cramped S1000RR. I never get it on my Diavel(almost perfect seating position).
I have started stretching before each ride to make sure all my joints are in the right place. (sad thing is Im only 39.....ugh).
