Every now and then
A guy needs a little reminder!
As an example, I was riding a narrow two lane thru the mountains Sat deep in thought, looking to the left edge of the road at the cliff that was falling away. When I glanced back ahead I was at the R/H pavement edge with momentum continuing to the right. I could see I was heading into the ditch(6ft deep X 8ft wide) and no way to stay on the road without sliding out. I ended riding into the 6ft deep ditch at 50MPH. After feathering the back break on the ditch slope, I came to a stop at the bottom a hundred yards or so from where it started, I couldn't believe I was in one piece and upright. It was like riding a dirt bike! Incredulous, I looked behind me and saw a big dust cloud from my misadventure.
I was able to ride back at an angle onto the road. At the next pull off I stopped and was reflecting. Thinking can be hazardous to ones health, mental or otherwise. I'll use that experience as a reminder, pay attention!

There's something on the forum about keeping your eyes moving; is how pilots scan the horizon so they don't miss enemy planes.
Not necessarily a fix for getting deep in thought, just thought I would mention it.

Gotta love those butt puckers. Good job. The sign of a good rider is riding it out and staying calm. Sounds like you did both. What amazes me is how I lived through my drinking days. "Cant walk but I can ride the bike"!!!
