I have a 2000 FXDS with dual front brakes, and would like to put a pair of 14-16" apes on. Obviously, this is going to require extension of my front brake lines (among other items).
From the front brake cylinder, there is a hard steel (inflexible) line, which runs to about 6" of flexible brake hose (located near the top of the forks, see attached picture), back into hard steel line to a splitter at the bottom of the steering stem, and eventually to the brake calipers via more flexible hose.
It seems like the best approach to extend the length of the line is to replace the short bit of flexible brake hose with a longer piece, either in its current configuration or from the lower steel line straight to the front cylinder. However, I have no experience with the couplers between the flexible hose and rigid line. Is this a crimped connection? How does this work? Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
replace that whole line with a braided brake line.... it will look away better and you can get almost any length you want on ...i would NOT reccomend trying to modify your factory brake line , your life depends on it...
