i sold cars for the better part of 2 years... i had zero problems selling NEW cars to friends and family. but often times, i would have friends come in want to buy an older vehicle that would have little to no warranty and such. i'd tell them straight up, i'd love to help you, but also at the same point, i dont for the reason if something goes wrong with it, i dont want to be the '*******' who sold them a piece of crap...
one time i actually went with my buddy out of state to buy an almost identical i had on my lot just cause i didn't wanna have to deal with the head of the what if down the road... ik it cost me money, but i didn't want to have it cost me friends or family... same deal here... if its family and could and looks like it already is causing problems, i'd tell the guy sorry, i just dont want something like this to be the cause of family problems... thats just me though
I would never buy anything from a family member. You have very little recourse if it goes south except "it was all good when you bought it" line. That's as bad as the dealers line "all Harleys do that". I would take your money back and look for a deal from a Harley dealer with a warranty.
