Dyna Maintenance Question
Need some advice from Dyna pros on maintenance for the ol 'Dyna, a '00 model, owned and loved since a newborn. And a joy to ride too. Due to my working overseas a lot, she is pretty low mileage, about 22K. So I am thinking about what all I need to do to pay her some attention so far as age-related issues vs. straight mileage. I'd like some feedback on what items to look at to ensure she keeps running well.
Right now she is running fine, always garaged, always during storage periods I have done Stabil, fogged the cylinders, battery tender, used a lift etc. No electrical issues. No leaks. No engine mods other than SE Carb kit, air cleaner, and pipes, and Hayden primary tensioner.
Still has original drive belt, but it is the wide belt and so to fit a 150 tire in there I have to loosen and shift the rear caliper. I also shifted rear turn signals to the tail light mount for increased under fender clearance. It had the cam bearings upgrade in '02 before they went bad.
So I am thinking of the following maintenance actions:
Complete service per mileage.
Inspect brake system, forks, shocks, fluid changes.
Tires and battery as needed.
Replace the original belt and pulley with narrow belt/pulley, mainly because of age and for ease of future rear tire R&R.
Open timing chest for inspection and check cam tensioner shoes.
Questions:
Am I on the right track? - don't want to spend money needlessly but want to be safe too.
Is there anything else I should check or consider replacing now? - open to suggestions.
Should I replace the drive belt even if it looks OK? Is 13 years the limit even for low mileage?
Appreciate any feedback before I start ordering parts! Cheers!
